Brothers and Sisters:

I would like to thank all those members and their families who marched in the Labor Day Parade at the New York State Fair. We had a great turnout despite rainy, cold conditions. Our Local had the largest contingent marching in the parade, with over three hundred!

As you are well aware, contract negotiations are ongoing for our collective bargaining agreement and the Warehouse agreement that both expire November 2, 2003.
On Tuesday, September 30, 2003 you can show your support for your Local by wearing a Union t-shirt or golf shirt.
It can be the red t-shirt used for the parade; the blue Union Logo t-shirts; the clambake t-shirt; or any t-shirt or golf shirt with the Sheet Metal or Local 527 logo will work. If you don't have a Union shirt, we still have a few of the red t-shirts left.  The shirts can be purchased for five dollars ($5) by contacting your Chief Steward or the Union Office.

In addition to negotiations, Frank and I have been working with the Labor/ Management committee set up by the Metropolitan Development Association to keep manufacturing jobs in Central New York. We have met with US Senators Clinton and Schumer, and Congressman Walsh, and have meetings set with NY State Senate Majority Leader Bruno and Assembly Speaker Silver. We are working every possible angle to keep Carrier manufacturing in Syracuse. In the meantime, we need you  to keep doing what you have been doing  your job to the best of your ability. You  have made TR20 and TR3 the  top two  Carrier plants in the United States in terms of profitability and productivity.

Updates on contract negotiations will be given at the Strike Vote meeting on October 19, 2003, at the Pepsi International Pavilion on the New York State Fairgrounds. The meeting will run from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm. The vote at this meeting is to authorize a strike in the event we do not ratify a new contract and to fulfill our constitutional obligation so we can obtain strike benefits from the SMWIA International. The power to call a strike gives the Union negotiating committee leverage.

We ask that you attend this important meeting to show your support for your negotiating committee.
And wear your Union logo shirt on TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 30!

Stay united, hold your head high
and keep producing the  BEST  product
Carrier has to offer!

Fraternally yours
